It was fall 2019. I was sitting on my back deck and noticing how the sunlight was shining through the trees down my back neighbor's long gravel driveway. The sunlight was also hitting the turning leaves. This gravel driveway sits next to a tree-lined small lake that was also beginning color. There was the faint smell of the first wood stove smoke. I thought of the passing of that neighbor’s wife who I would sometimes see feebly walking down the drive to their mailbox. Those images stayed with me into the pandemic where loss became news.
